WELL... Anjalika and I went to the Netherlands for break. We stayed for the first week with the mother of a childhood friend of hers in the city of Utrecht. My friend Eli, from way-back-when, in the days of Concordia's French Voyageurs camp, flew to Eyndhoven from London for a short visit before he returned to the states at the end of his study exchange at the AA. We spent the day in Amsterdam, wandered the van Gogh, visited various bars and then took the train back to Utrecht where we said goodbye to Eli.
There was a serious misjudgment of our energy levels Friday: we first intended to make use of the Rijksmuseum's late hours (until 10pm on Fridays) and make a double visit to both the Stadlijk (modern art) and Rijks (classical and more specific to the history of the Netherlands). After a long strange trip to the temporary and bizzare location of the stadlijk museum we decided not to enter (none of their "classical attractions" were on display but the entry fee was still the same) we began to meander in the general direction of the Rijks--by general, I simply mean south of the central station. By the time we were somewhere around halfway, we had made our way through a good portion of the central city, and decided we did not have the energy to properly visit a museum. Settling on a movie, we received a phone call from Vitorio (a classmate of mine) who was also in Amsterdam, and as it turned out, on the other side of the block! So we met up with him and his friends from back home in Brazil for the remainder of the evening. They had not slept since they were in London the day before and Vitorio fell asleep at the bar. (Picture to come!)
