I HEART RYANAIR: a long 40 some hours...

Tuesday, June 13th

My flight from Malmo to London was uneventful, but the plane to Frankfurt had a flat tire, we were delayed an hour and half. I missed my bus to meet Erica in train station and arrived three hours later than planned. We were reminded of what the world was like before cell phones.

After a lot of searching in the Frankfurt main train station I finally met Erica who had arrived the day before and been experiencing fan fest and the likes of the city. We stashed our bags in a locker at the station and went down the street to one of the many bars and vendors who had set up outdoor seating and televisions to watch the Brazil vs. Korea (?) game. Afterwards, we caught the 9-hour night train to Prague. (We had been assured we would not need to make reservations, alas, the Korea fans had reserved just about the whole train so we spent the first few hours crammed in the halls with all the other lucky passengers...) A couple from Omaha took pity on my broken self and gave me a seat in their cabin. With all the commotion and crowding, it did not occur to Erica or myself that she had my passport and train tickets and at 4am when border patrol came through the cars I frantically woke 4 sleeping cars of passengers searching for her with the help of a drunk Australian. Have you ever tried to navigate a train moving through the countryside on crutches half awake?
